One of the coolest shows in the world to celebrate contemporary art and design is SOFA (the International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art), and this year’s 11th annual expo in New York, held May 29–June 1, is one of the coolest yet. A select group of Blue Rain’s own—Tammy Garcia, Preston Singletary, Les Namingha, Richard Zane Smith, and Tony Abeyta—are joining the ranks of recognized masters like George Nakashima, Peter Voulkos, and Dale Chihuly, among others, whose works in ceramics, glass, metal, wood, and fiber are celebrated worldwide. SOFA showcases only the finest and most cutting-edge works, so it’s an honor to have so many of our artists participating in this prestigious international assemblage. Contemporary Native American art has long since shed the labels of “folk art” and “handicrafts,” taking its rightful place in the world of fine art as an innovative force that transcends traditional categories. A look at SOFA’s roster of talent confirms this fact—check it out at www.sofaexpo.com.
