Retrato: New Works in Oil by Roseta Santiago

Santiago’s show will be the first of the season for Blue Rain’s new Scottsdale location

SCOTTSDALE, A.Z. [December 16, 2010] – Blue Rain Contemporary is proud to announce a solo show with traditional still-life and portrait artist, Roseta Santiago from January 13 – 31, 2011. There will be a reception for the artist on Thursday, January 13 from 7 – 9pm.

The show title, Retrato, is defined as portrait or portrayal. Santiago’s new paintings represent portraits of contemporary people surrounded by their past with particular focus on embellishments, clothing, and tattoos depicting glyphs of the individuals’ tribal pasts. The tattoos are meant to be symbolic of how the past stays with us. The artist explains, “these paintings take a deeper look and tell the story of how we define ourselves visually; how we develop our exteriors by our interiors to explain who we are; and how DNA and the past explain that for us”.

Roseta Santiago is based in Santa Fe, NM where she paints daily. Her work is recognized and collected internationally. She has successfully exhibited for four years in the invitational show, Quest for the West, at The Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, IN, as well as the Coors Western Show in Denver, CO and the Settlers West Miniatures Show in Tucson, AZ.
