Students and Soldiers by Erin Currier

Mixed media artist combines art and politics to create a visual discourse on domestic struggles

SANTA FE, N.M. [July 15, 2012] –Blue Rain Gallery is pleased to announce Students and Soldiers by Erin Currier. The show will be on view August 31 – September 18, 2012 with an artist reception on Friday, August 31st from 5 – 7pm.

Erin Currier’s artwork is a testament to her worldview and dedication to social justice. Her work visually articulates the emancipatory struggles of peoples around the globe through skillfully rendered portraits composed of painting and collage. Her collage is constructed often with trash collected from her travels. In her newest body of work, Currier has chosen to focus her energies largely on the social and political issues we are confronted with in the United States. Students and Soldiers seeks to create dialogue around controversial issues such as the use of drones by police departments domestically; the ongoing surveillance of the American Muslim community; the question of whether divulging classified information regarding war crimes constitutes the crime of treason; the censorship of books; the mass incarceration of African American youth; women’s rights; and increasing racism.

Join us at the Blue Rain Gallery to celebrate the courageous and timely art of Erin Currier!
