Neo Traditional: 15 Years in Bronze by Tammy Garcia

A nationally recognized Pueblo potter and sculptor is honored with a major retrospective of her bronze sculpture at a premier Santa Fe gallery.

SANTA FE, N.M. [April 8, 2013] – Tammy Garcia has long been a pillar of Blue Rain Gallery’s renowned stable of contemporary artists. Known for the infinite detail she puts into her creations, and her ability to re-interpret ancient Puebloan design motifs in new, exciting ways, Garcia is one of the most collectible Native American artists working today. A major survey of her bronze sculpture, Neo Traditional: 15 Years in Bronze by Tammy Garcia, will be held at Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, May 1 – 31, 2013, with an artist reception on Friday, May 3rd from 5 – 7pm.

Over the last fifteen years, Tammy Garcia has breathed new life into the spectrum of contemporary Native American sculpture by successfully transitioning her unique pottery design aesthetic to bronze work. Her works in bronze are a major departure from what has been the standard of Native American sculpture prior to 1999. Garcia’s bronzes emanate from a Native modernist perspective which focus on paired down, abstract, geometric forms containing pictorial narrative carvings of Puebloan culture—figures, animals, and other iconic Southwestern design motifs. The results are noble and ground-breaking sculptures that will endure time as they enliven the past, engage the present, and foreshadow the future. Tammy Garcia’s bronzes are the epitome of what is to be Neo-Traditional.

Do not miss an opportunity to experience a 15 year review of Garcia’s bronze sculpture. It will be a show of momentous proportion, sure to be remembered!
