What is a semen analysis?

A semen analysis is an essential test for evaluating whether there is a male factor contributing to infertility. It includes a determination of color, viscosity, volume, liquefaction, pH, sperm concentration, percent motility, morphology, grade of progression and type and number of non-sperm cells (i.e. white blood cells, red blood cells).

Garcia Labs uses state-of-the-art, fully automated equipment for fast, consistent results.

What is sperm cryopreservation (sperm banking)?

A procedure to preserve sperm cells using ultra low temperatures.

Why should I consider sperm banking?

This allows men to preserve their fertility for many reasons, including chemotherapy, radiation, pre-vasectomy and military.

I have already begun my cancer therapy; is sperm banking still an option?

Ideally, sperm should be collected and stored before the start of treatment; however collection of sperm in the early stages of treatment is common and can be effective.

I have a low sperm count, is sperm banking still effective?

Because of advances in fertilization and sperm banking technology, all men, even those with low sperm counts and motility, should be considered candidates for sperm cryopreservation.

How long can cryopreserved sperm last?

Storage periods of more than 40 years for sperm have been documented, but it is estimated that it can remain viable for 2-3,000 years.
